Yak Terminology / Glossary
Are we Living the Dream? A"zen and the art of busdriving" question, which would help to define the dream. Our goal to tour the yak electronica has been a dream that's been fulfilled, with many other questions and issues raised along the way. This question always made us think about what we were doing, what we were getting out of it, and how to make those long hours of lugging worthwhile.
Are we There Yet? An oft heard question regarding time to destination, time to gig start, time to bump out, and time to bed.
Be Sincere, Days Go By, Things Change: All lyrics that are used in and out of context as a response to other comments or situations. Should be spoken or sung in a high pitched voice.
Beauty: (pronounced beeooody) adjective for any enjoyable experience or suggestion. A meem catchphrase, often overheard in record shops when he makes a new find.
Bloody Hippies: An often overheard (and probably apt) description for tour members who find themselves in Hanson country.
Blows: Sucks
Blows Chunks through my Mind: Heavy.
Brown: Not Orange.
Bump some Grindage: grab some tucker.
Chead: A special fermented cheese drink.
Cheese into Gold: Telemtry Orchestra's modus operandi.
Coles: 24 hour entertainment zone, cultural centre and general supplies, found in Everywhere Mall in McSuburbs around Australia.
Dreadds: an optional accessory for head protection, earwarming, and yak stylee.
e-Tag: a device invented by the Kennett government to welcome new visitors to Melbourne. Apon arriving via freeway, travellers are directed to a misinformation centre where they wait in line to apply for a freeway toll payment device. The 30 minute wait in a portable office is designed to put visitors into a mood of frustration and tension to better appreciate the cities cultural highlights.
I just drive the bus: Standard response to any question about tour logistics. Originally a huwism, has been adopted by most as a useful response to hard-to-answer questions about the tour, life the universe and everything...
Oh my funky leg: originally the title for a scribble drawing, it was proposed as a party name.
Lug song: A way to make something that's heavy seem lighter.
Rock: a very large rolling stone.
Rock Pig: a rock effigy of a scavenger that works for cashews.
Rock Star: A Rock Pig that knows where to score.
Shenanigans: What happens in the back of the bus, behind the driver's back.
Tetris: a game involving strategy and speed to match odd shaped objects to available space with increasing speed in a race against time. Also used to describe stowing gear in the bus.
The Human Chain: An inefficient method for lugging road cases from the bus into and out of venues.
Yak: Hairy Tibetan Cow which is the lifeblood, foundation and glue of tibetan society, where it is used for food, shelter, transport and fuel. It's butter is used to make lamp oil and sculptures. "Yak" is the word for the herd and also for bull, and "Dee" is the word for a female yak. Yak is also the bootyjackin' bovine, the mystical symbol of community and culture at the heart of the tour.
Zahir: The name for the magic bus. Zahir Abus was a west indian cricketer, and apparently "Zahir" means "magic".
